Sant Jordi: the day Barcelona gives roses

What it is
On 23 April, Catalonia celebrates its patron saint by filling the streets with book stalls and rose sellers. The custom is simple: you give a rose, and you give a book. By the end of the day the city has handed over something like six million roses.
It is not a formal holiday — shops open, people work — but it is the day of the year when Barcelona is at its best, and nobody who lives here forgets it.
What people send
Roses go to partners, but also to mothers, daughters, colleagues and friends. A single red rose is the classic. Sending more is not a mistake, it just says something different.
Before you order
This is our busiest day of the year. Order several days ahead if you can. On 23 April the delivery slot you choose is a guide rather than a promise: we are out from early morning until the evening.
Between 21 and 24 April our rose prices follow the Sant Jordi market. Whatever you see on the site on the day you order is what you pay, with VAT and delivery already included.
